Sewer Backup

Sewer backup is the emergency nobody sees coming on a Saturday night. Sewage rises through the basement floor drain. Every minute counts.

What's actually happening

Sewer backup happens when the municipal system is overwhelmed (heavy rain, rapid snowmelt) or when your private drainage line is partially blocked by roots, grease, or debris. Homes without a backwater valve are most vulnerable.

In older neighbourhoods like Hochelaga, Verdun or Villeray, main drains are 70+ years old. They weren't sized for the intense precipitation we see today. If your basement has backed up once, the odds of recurrence are high without preventive action.

What we do when we arrive

  1. Pumping and extraction of contaminated water
  2. High-pressure rinsing of affected floors and walls
  3. Application of certified biocide disinfectant
  4. Forced drying (48h minimum)
  5. Video inspection of the drain if recommended
  6. Complete documentation with photos

Prevention that makes a difference

A backwater valve installed on your main drain costs between $800 and $1,500 installed. The City of Montreal offers a subsidy program that reimburses up to 50% of the cost. We handle the paperwork for the subsidy application.
